The Value of Face to Face Meetings

Having worked in the vibrant hospitality industry for the past 10 years, more specifically with the booking of corporate meetings, I wanted to share my views on why face to face meetings are so important.

A few months ago I attended an online training webinar for a new CRM software program that was being implemented. It was to begin promptly at 8:00am, so I grabbed my cup of coffee, plopped down at my desk, and logged in. That is the last thing I remember. The instructor moved so quickly that at no point was I able to catch up. I didn’t want to slow the other attendees in the webinar down by asking questions, so I simply remained online and spaced out for the next few hours. I learned nothing. Nada!

Being able to read body language and facial expressions is one of the top reasons that company executives prefer face to face meetings. This simply cannot be done virtually. People do not want to sit at their computers and stare at each other on computer screens. Let’s be honest folks, it’s too easy to get side tracked.

A recent Forbes study of more than 750 businesses provides a strong argument for the value of face-to-face meetings. It also supports my personal belief that in-person meetings help to provide a stronger, more meaningful relationship. Personal interaction is the foundation in which relationships are built, both personal and professional. Whether it is colleague-to-colleague or client-to-client or business–to-customer, it’s what drives business.

As you begin planning your meetings for the upcoming year, be sure to take advantage of what Adams Pointe Conference Center and Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Blue Springs, Missouri have to offer. Whether you are in need of a 12-person Boardroom, 100-person Technology Theater or a Grand Ballroom for 1,000, Adams Pointe Conference Center is ready to accommodate you……and facilitate your valuable face-to-face meeting!

Don’t Dismiss The Importance Of Employee Training

The best companies in the world spend the most money on training people. Not advertising. Every company that I know strives for better customer service and for more sales, but these goals are not achieved without a continued commitment to employee training.

We are not just talking about ‘new’ employee training… you know, the standard practice of sitting a recently hired staff member down in a back office with the company handbook and a video about your everyday practices. I am talking about committing yourself and your entire staff to continually getting better at what you do and how you do it. This is most easily achieved by involving some experts.

Most CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies agree that a percentage of each year’s sales should immediately be dedicated to employee training. This is not an area that they cut in hard times, but rather one that is increased as the need for more effective selling and service to our valued customers arises. Buying customer service and sales books for you and your staff is a great start. But we all know how that usually ends…. for most, a few pages are briefly skimmed in an effort to simply be prepared for the half-hour discussion at the monthly staff meeting. In order to commit your business to truly getting better you need to involve the professionals. This means coordinating a sales and/or customer service seminar with an accomplished trainer. You might know your business best, but these experts know how to improve each area of it and motivate your staff.

So where I am going with this, you ask? As the new year approaches and you beginning planning your employee training efforts, be sure to secure a meeting space suited to professionally conduct your event. The Adams Pointe Conference Center and Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Blue Springs, Missouri offers a variety of meeting rooms sure to fit your group size, budget, and event needs. Whether you are in need of our Grand Ballroom with theater seating for 1,000, our luxurious Board Room, or our 108-seat Technology Theater featuring the ultimate in ergonomic and audio/visual presentation space, our facility is ready to accommodate your needs and exceed your expectations!
